Overview of the UC-Davis ERP Boot Camp

The UC-Davis ERP Boot Camp is an intensive introduction to the ERP technique, organized and led by Steve Luck with additional lectures by many other ERP experts.

Boot Camp topics include:
1) Where do ERPs come from? What do they mean?
2) The design and interpretation of ERP experiments
3) Setting up and running an ERP lab
4) EEG data acquisition
5) Filtering, artifact rejection, and artifact correction
6) Measuring and analyzing ERP components
7) Time-frequency analysis
8) ERP localization

We also focus on the use of ERPs in several research areas, including:
1) Attention, emotion, memory, language, and cognitive control
2) Aging, dementia, and brain damage
3) Schizophrenia and other psychiatric disorders
4) Cognitive development

The boot camp consists of lectures on these topics, accompanied by discussions of classic and contemporary ERP papers and guided lab activities (e.g., EEG recording, filtering waveforms, measuring ERP components). We also provide opportunities to meet individually or in small groups with ERP experts, who can provide personalized advice and information.

Participants at previous Boot Camps have come from around the world and have ranged from beginning graduate students to full professors. They have included psychologists, neuroscientists, psychiatrists, neurologists, and speech pathologists. We encourage the participation of individuals from underrepresented groups.
